Just over two months ago, our team decided to join the fight against cancer by signing up for Cancer Research UK’s Guildford 5 kilometre Race for Life in on Sunday 24th May – and it’s safe to say that none of us realised how far we would end up getting!
Our initial hope was to rally our friends, family and clients to raise £500 from our sponsored walk (enough to fund one cancer information nurse for four days). As ever though, the magnificent support of our friends, family and clients surpassed our wildest expectations. By the time we posted our initial Race for Life blog post on 7th May, we had already raised 50% of our target. Then the support truly began pouring in, and by the 20th May, we had smashed our previous goal and raised an incredible £1452.33. But it didn’t stop there; our final total came in at £1,977.33 – a staggering 395% higher than our initial goal, and also a figure in the top 3% of donations raised by over 44,000 racers across the month!
The generosity and support of our almost 80 donors truly inspired us, to the extent that we couldn’t wait to get running! If that wasn’t motivating enough, when we turned up to the event, we found an amazing atmosphere. To paraphrase our MD, Shirley, it was magical to witness thousands of caring people coming together with the shared goal of saving lives and fighting this terrible disease.
We were thrilled to have taken part in this wonderful experience, and to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause. Of course, walking 5 kilometres is nothing compared to what cancer sufferers go through on a daily basis, but if the Race for Life events prove anything, it is that together we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
